Aren't NFTs bad for the environment?
It is a very good and complex question! In a nutshell, Ethereum-based NFTs are currently using the infrastructure which is very energy-inefficient, and probably increasing its popularity and associated emissions to some extent. There are other types of blockchains which are much more energy-efficient (they are using Proof-of-Stake principle, PoS). NFTs minted there are not associated with excessive carbon footprint. Ethereum is expected to switch to Proof-of-Stake in 2021 or 2022. More detailed discussion (and many links) can be found in our positioning paper
